Kind of Test by Mori Manjusri


       Test is a process to appraise student’s skill and knowledge. Before teacher is providing test for student, teacher should to settle on design of test firstly. Design test is useful to establish suitable test for student, such as ages and level of student. To gives test for students, teacher be Imageable to uses five types of the test, such as test base on how much to test, test base on how and what the student’s score compared, test base on when to test, test base on how to score, and test base on how real is the test situation. All types of test is very significant for teacher in determine suitable test for student.

 

1)      Test Base on How Much to Test

      Test base on how much to test is a test to find out the quantity of student’s score and also amount of test for student. Discrete- Point versus Integrative test is a test that include into this category. Discrete- point test is a test that teacher obtain test to student at the same time, such as teacher asking about pronoun to his student in the classroom. In other hand, integrative test is a test to use a variety of language by student at anyone in given time, such as student doing conversational oral test in the front of class and teacher is acquire score from student’s performance.

2)      Test Base on How and What Student’s Score Compared

 Test base on how and what student’s score compared is a test that compared each student’s score in the classroom. Test that sort on how and what student’s score compared is Norm- references versus Criterion- referenced test. The purpose of this test is to looking for the rank of student. The divergence among Norm- references versus Criterion- referenced is positioned in the typical of the test. In the criterion referenced, standard of the test is given previous to the tests begin. For example, the requirement for students at junior or senior high school wants to pass from national examination is student must to acquire score 7.00 from each national examination’s lesson. 

In other hand, standard in norm- referenced is present after test has been done. For instance, there are many student who applying USA’s international scholarship 2013 in UMY. Whereas, this scholarships is only search 5 achievement’s student. Hence, USA’s international scholarship must to looking for the quality and skills of student, such as with test. If results of test demonstrate that quality and skill of students are same, so USA’s international scholarship must to looking for other student superiority, such as student motivation to apply scholarship and student’s method to solve a problem.

 Actually, test base on norm- referenced standardized test versus criterion referenced test able to be joining into at same time. The scheme of these tests is assessor should to settle on standards of the test before and after test. For instance, PT Maju Sentosa is looking for 10 people with higher achievement as employee. To apply this job, people should to complete and fill out the regulations firstly, such as having job experience’s certificate, and other. Fill out and a complete regulation firstly is illustration of standard that given before the test begin. There are many people who complete and fill out this job, but half of job taker is acceptable and other half of job taker is unacceptable. Because PT Maju Sentosa is searching 10 new employees, so assessor should to create standard of the test again, such as determine criteria of good employee (for example having higher motivation in work, preserve to teamwork, and also work hard). 

3)      Test Base on When to Test

       Test that category into test base on when to test are Pre- test versus Post- test, Placement test, Aptitude test, Summative versus Formative test, and Progress test.

a.       Pre- test versus Post- test

      In generally, the dissimilarity among pre- test and post- test is located time to do test. Pre- test versus post- test is a test to find out the advance of student base on before and after learning program operated. For instance, CV Cerdas Bersama is an English private course in Jakarta. In first year, this private course was presented test to their student who studying at this course. The result of the student at first year is:

     Base on first year test, the result of this test is very disappointed, because many students were got lower scores. It probably caused by student who do not much understand about materials. After 2 years student studying at CV Cerdas Bersama, the staff of this course is provide test again as the last test. The result of the last test is:

      Base on the result, data showed that students were got variety score after the test. If student in the first year’s test got worst score and the last test were gain good score, it mean student having development about knowledge after joined a learning program. For this private course, they are successful to bring their student to be a better people.

b.      Placement test

      Placement test is a test to determine level of student, such as smart, enough smart, bad, or worst. To operate this test, teacher should to provide to test base on syllabus and materials that student has been follows.

c.       Aptitude test

        Aptitude test is a test to find out the readiness in a program. For example, EED UMY was launching an International student exchange with University of Malaya, Malaysia. To find out the readiness of EED UMY in operate international student exchange, lecture at this department should to present a test for their students firstly. If many students were got better scores, this program is ready to perform. Whereas, if the result is showed that many students were got bad scores, lecturer at EED UMY should to evaluate their readiness of International Student Exchange’s program.

  1. Progress test

       Progress test is a test to measure student’s language and skill progress base on syllabus that they had been follow. For example, every year student at EED UMY doing TOEFL test. Other example is lecturer at EED UMY always gives an assessment to his students. Hence, it means the test is to looking for the development of student in learning English at EED UMY.

 

4)      Test Base on How to Score

      Test base on how to score is a test to find out the manner to accomplish a test. Test that category into test base on how to score is subjective versus objective test. Subjective test is a test that in given the score base on score or estimation of teacher to student. In other hand, objective test is a test that in given the score base on real conditions to student.

5)      Test Base on How Real the Test Situation

     Test that category on how real the test situation is direct test versus indirect test. Direct test is a test that teacher operate the test is directly to student, such as TOEFL. Besides direct, indirect test on how real test situation is a test that teacher operate the test is indirectly, such as test with questionnaire.
